Embedded payments: Let customers pay in your checkout directly and boost your conversion

Accept payments faster with MultiSafepay. Our payment components integrate the payment process entirely into your checkout.

Reduce redirects and cart abandonment rates, and boost your conversion through our embedded payments.

Before we dive into the advantages of embedding your payments, let's compare them side-by-side to the other popular alternative: hosted payments.

Embedded vs. Hosted

When looking at the way you process payments in your checkout, there are two flavors you can choose from. We have hosted payment methods (redirect) and embedded payment methods (direct).

Hosted payments (redirect)

A checkout that utilizes hosted payment methods sends the customer to a payment page that's hosted by MultiSafepay (hence the name).

In general, hosted payment methods are easier to integrate and set up but offer less customization in refining the payment experience. The hosted payment pages are secure and maintained by the payment provider, which results in less potential work for the merchant.

Sometimes, sending customers to a different page to pay can cause them to break off their purchase - especially customers who are wary of fraud. However, for other customers, it might be the other way around, them seeing a payment page by a company they know can lead to them trusting the associated webshop more. Overall, hosted payment pages can lead to more abandonment rates in the payment process.

Embedded payments (direct)

Embedded payments shorten the payment process for your customers. Where a hosted payment redirects the consumer to a MultiSafepay payment page for several actions, the embedded payment cuts this redirect completely, which is why they are called direct integrations.

The fields in which consumers fill in their details are embedded into your checkout, which shortens their checkout time and increases their trust in your webshop.

Embedded payments are the way forward for online business, as it streamlines the payment flow and usually lead to lower abandonment rates. Once set up, they are a crucial booster for checkout conversion.

Other embedded advantages

Display the right payment methods

Our embedded checkout detects where your customer is shopping from. Based on their location, you can choose to offer specific payment methods, and even change the order of how they're displayed. A good example is iDEAL, which is a must-have in the Netherlands, but practically useless outside of it.

Our component can dynamically show and hide payment methods like iDEAL, Bancontact, Bizum, or MyBank, depending on your market.

Learn how this works

Lightning-quick repeat purchases

Integrating payments directly into your checkout gives you the option to enable our tokenization technology. The first time a customer uses a payment method, they can choose to save and encrypt it. Upon their next visit, they can reuse the same payment method with just one click.

In combination with embedded payments, tokenization creates an unrivaled, frictionless payment flow. Before activating tokenization, you have to activate it in your backend.

Never handle sensitive data

We save and encrypt the data (mentioned above), which is one of the significant advantages of embedded payments. The data entered in the fields is sent directly to our systems. In the case of a potential data breach or leak on your side, you are not in danger of leaking sensitive data and are not liable for any financial repercussions.

Your checkout, your branding

The consumer chose your website, so if they get redirected to a different website (with a different logo and colors), it can cause trust issues. This is out of the equation if you're embed payments directly in your checkout. Your logo and branding remain because the customer always stays on your site. On top of that, the CSS for the fields and forms can all be styled to match the rest of your website.

Upgrade automatically

One of the major advantages of an embedded checkout is that we turn on new updates and features. Meaning you'll be automatically using the latest versions of payment methods. This reduces the amount of maintenance on your end and creates a better workflow for you, and you'll always be using the latest payment technologies on the market.

All together

When you combine all these different advantages, you're creating a better payment experience for your customers and a better experience managing payments for you. The checkout conversion is improved due to the dynamic payment sorting, the shortened payment flow, and through the removal of the redirect. The management side of things improves through the automated upgrades, saving you the work, alongside the offloading of sensitive data handling.

On average, merchants that implemented tokenization have noticed a checkout conversion increase between 14-25%”

Activated with just a click

Changing the payment flow of customers in your checkout must be technical and take lots of time to activate, right? Wrong.

Our payment components can be switched on with just the click of a button. If your platform version is compatible, they can be turned on in a matter of seconds.
